My book promotion guru, Carolyn Howard-Johnson, has 84 of them. Yes, you read right. 84! Don't feel bad. She started building her lists years ago. I have only four, but have plans to build more.
What is a Listmania?
It's a list of book recommendations made by writers and readers on Amazon.com. Here's mine: http://www.amazon.com/gp/richpub/listmania/byauthor/A2C2P5C3GJFD8N/ref=pd_ys_homenav_lm/002-0925435-6180804. While you are there if you find a helpful list, I'd love for you to vote. Having votes is most helpful, or so they say.
What's the point? Carolyn says it helps you get noticed in the Amazon.com community. Plus, as I see it, it's a way to help readers learn about great books. For example, one of my list contains books that taught me valuable life lessons. Another is for parents of adolescent girls and includes books that not only helped me write my second book, but are, in my opinion, must reads for parents.
How do you get started?
It's easy! Of course you already have an account, right? If not start there.
Next:
1. Click on "Your Name's" Amazon.com located at the top left-hand corner.
2. Scroll down the page a few times. Look on the right-hand side until you find a subheading titled: "Your Participation". There you'll find "Your Listmania Lists". Click on the link and you can start creating.
Tips:
1. Use interesting titles. The idea is to get folks interested in reading your lists.
2. Try to fill up your lists. I plan to add 25 (the limit) on each list unless I run out of books that qualify.
3. Use the comments function for each book. Even if you only write a few words, share with readers why you recommend a book.
4. Add a link on your blog or website to your Listmania link. Ask people to vote. Never tell people how to vote. The goal is to provide helpful lists to your readers.
5. Make it easy on yourself. Build one list at a time. Return to the list regularly to update and alter as needed. The title and listings can always be changed.
Have fun! More on this topic soon. :)
