Blogging to Be Noticed Experiment!

I pledged a good while back that I was going to increase my blogging audience. So, I have been researching the topic.

If you, too, are trying to figure out how to be noticed in a complicated cyberworld, then follow along with me. We'll do this in a step-by-step fashion.

Today, I started with Technorati.com.

Why Technorati? Because the "people in the know" said so. Okay, I'll do better than that. I searched for information and found this article: "Why Technorati is So Cool!" I also found some folks who weren't so impressed. But, I'm willing to give it a try and see what happens.

There is a process and it does take time. The more blogs you have, the more time it will take you to set something up.

To get started visit: Technorati.com.
Next, look at the top right. You'll see the "join" link. It's basic.

Then after you set up an account, you can start claiming blogs. Do this by clicking on favorites (which will be a menu option at the top of the page).

Scroll down a ways. Keep looking to the left (left hand column) until you see, "Claim your blog." Click there. Follow the instructions until all blogs are claimed.

Then it's up to you to cut and paste HTML code to your blogs. If you use Blogger.com, it's very easy to do. You go to "layout" and then to "page settings". You click on "add page element." Then, select JAVA/HTML code choice. This shows you where you'll be pasting the code.

Before you can paste, though, you have to copy the HTML code (use simultaneously "CTRL" key and the "C" key). Once copied, return to the JAVA/HTML choice and then paste (use simultaneously "CTRL" key and the "V" key).

That should do it for you!

But, oh no, you are not done. Everytime you create a new post, you need to return to Technorati and ping it. Here's how I understand it. A "ping" is a signal that is sent to websites who are identified as "blog crawlers," basically sites looking for blogs. These "crawlers" include Technorati. They also include Google Blogsearch and Ice Rocket. There are others and I will be looking for them. The game is to visit the sites you are registered with (and now you'll be registered with Technorati) and let them know you have posted new content on your blog. Once notified, they'll come a calling.

Next time I'll be enrolling in Google Blogsearch and maybe Ice Rocket. I'll share with you how it's done.

Also, I'll establish a baseline for my blogs (subscribers and viewers) so by the end of the experiment (similar to my Amazon.com fun), I can report on whether I see benefit.

One change I'll soon be making is to post more often. I'm launching a new community for moms and girls. This community will have three blogs. I will post short, regular blogs. By regular, I am meaning four to seven days weekly. There might be days where I'll post more than once.

Off to go tell Technorati I updated my blog. You know...I'm about to go ping!

Interesting! I will be bookmarking this for the near future. I still feel like I'm "playing" with my blog persona or what it's all about and getting into some kind of rhythm, but this would be an easy thing to do in the meantime.

Right now I'm supposed to be doing something other than staring at the computer screen, so thank you for making my escapee time educational!

I haven't the faintest idea of what most of this means, Allyn. Guess I need you to work your magic and lead me through some this pinging and technoratie business, like you did before. You are my blog guru!
